Adidas D.O.N. Issue #1
There Are Times You Wanna Love A Shoe, But It May Just Not Be Right For Your Foot!
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly..
I would like to start out by saying everything you read in my review of these sneakers may not be the exact same for your foot. I know I say this often, but sometimes sneakers will just not be the right fit for certain peoples feet. No matter how much you like how they look, or want them to work out they may not! It may not always be the whole shoe either, and could possibly even be only one aspect! Lets go ahead and find out how these worked out for me!
(Please read to the end. I started out with the bad, because you know what they say..It can only get better from here!)
Fit: 1
Lets just go ahead and get straight into the bad. From the start of trying these on I should have known that they weren’t necessarily going to work on my feet. Let me explain, when I went into the store I obviously asked for my normal 11.5. I proceed to try them on and in the length category they felt like a 13 for me.. I let them know that I need to go down in sizing, so they bring me a 11. The 11 is a little better, but still not my normal fit. You know whats next.. they bring me a 10.5; I try them on and they fit decent in the length with still a small amount of heel slip, and also decent in the width but a little narrow. It was nothing I thought would be to much. I played in these shoes for around three hours on one occasion and my heels are blistered up from that small slip I was telling you about! I wanted to start the review off with this because before you purchase a pair you definitely may want to try them on! I have read other reviews and it does not seem others are all having this same issue, but I do have a friend that normally wears a 13 and had to get a 12 in these. Overall the fit was the absolute weakest point for me, and I hope if you get a pair you do not have these same issues.
Traction: 3
I hope your still reading and I have not ran you off yet. Overall as I said at the beginning sometimes one weak point can ruin the whole shoe, but in this case I saw some very strongpoints to the shoe other than the sizing issues I had. One in particular being the traction! Ive told everyone before the traction is one of the most important parts of a performance shoe to me, and these did not disappoint. Driving to the basket, making quick stops for pull-ups, or just feeling in control overall were all key factors to me loving the traction on the D.O.N. 1s. Laterally and vertically I really had no complaints at all, and I was actually playing on a very dusty court where I didn’t notice myself ever really wiping the bottoms off much either. Adidas overall for sneakers that I have played in especially recently have been doing a great job on the traction for me, and these are no different! The traction on these will not disappoint.
Lockdown: 3
Another key feature for me in a performance shoe is definitely the lockdown especially when we are talking about a lower top sneaker. I have said on several occasions I have never been much of a low top hooper, due to several ankle injuries. I know the news and what most say that low tops have nothing to do with ankle injuries, and maybe that is correct but I do feel safer in a mid or high top normally.
For this case we will make some exceptions because everything to me was done perfectly in the ankle area for a great lock down setup. Yes, my heel was sliding due to some sizing issues, but it was almost like a non noticeable slip because of the cushioned padding I do believe. There are 4 extra padded sections at the heel of the shoe that basically wrap around your foot and honestly its a very comfortable feel while wearing the shoe overall. The cushion in this area would be phenomenal if like I said I was able to find my correct fit. (sigh) This is a new model I absolutely want to love and get more color ways of and actually continue to play in. Its a low top sneaker I actually feel safe and secure in, but going back to that sizing it just is not working out for me.
Materials: 3
I also honestly had no complaints about the materials of the shoe either. They are definitely not anything premium with the upper being made from textiles, but they are very breathable in my opinion and do work! On a random note the tongue of a shoe can sometimes get in the way or be uncomfortable in certain performance basketball shoes, but on these to me it is very comfortable and doesn’t get in the way for me. The back of the tongue has a cushioned padding that feels great to me and when tightening the shoe I feel like the tongue gives you a extra lockdown feel from the padding on the inside.
Cushion: 3
The cushion and comfort of the shoe overall Is also a very key strongpoint. These sneakers do feature bounce cushion and not boost. I am a huge fan of boost in casual sneakers, and some areas of basketball are ok as well. For the most part I would prefer bounce for the cushion setup on a basketball sneaker because I like getting a little more court feel. These did the job perfectly for me in this aspect as they gave me the court feel I needed, but also the comfort in the cushion that my knees weren’t going to need ice the next day! Lets put it this way I could see myself grabbing a pair of these in a different cw just to wear casually because I like the cushion setup that much.
Overall: 2
This model could be one of my favorite shoes at the moment if I were able to get a correct fit. The sizing was just bad for me, but I really have no other complaints about the shoe. From the cushion, to the lockdown, and traction I loved every step of the way, but the sizing is what will keep me from getting to play in them again. My overall advice is for you to go into your store and find the correct sizing before purchasing. I definitely do not want to steer anyone away from these as I think overall they are going to work out great for most people! After hearing other reviews on these and talking to some about my issues it could be possible I have a defected pair. As I said take my review for the good not the bad because overall in the end there are many more great aspects to the shoe than bad!
Have A Great Week & Happy Hooping!
