A Little Late On Reviewing These, But Later Was Definitely Better Than Never With These!!
What is going on everyone? Airjayp here, and today were back with another performance review! Lets jump straight in and see how the Under Armour Curry 8
Flow performed for me on court!
Grading system: 0-3
Traction: (Indoors 3)(Outdoors 2)
Starting out once again where I always like to go first and that's how did the traction work for me? I thoroughly enjoyed the 8s from a traction standpoint and had no issues laterally or vertically at all. These were actually very surprising at how well they worked on a dusty or dirty floor. They worked nearly perfect for me on any floor or court, and have become my go to at this time on a dusty court because they grip and bite the floor so well! The outsole/traction pattern is comprised of nothing but foam. There is no rubber on the outsole or traction which is not something we normally see. They stepped out on a limb here and it worked absolutely great! Your probably wondering why a grading of 2 instead of 3 if I liked them so well? Personally indoors I would rate them a 3, but I did actually play in these a little outdoors and that is why I am not giving them a perfect score. The foam on the outsole or traction pattern seems to wear down very, very fast if used outdoors. If you are an outside player only or on outdoor surfaces these may not be for you. If your like me and mostly play indoors though these are very good from a traction standpoint and did not disappoint me in any way whatsoever! Indoors they are getting a 3, outdoors I will give them a 2, because they do still grip really well, but I do feel will wear down pretty fast.
Fit: 2
Fit is something that we all know is pretty important for sneakers, but in general very important for a performance shoe of any kind. The Curry 8 features basically a one piece upper that is almost a performance version of a "sock shoe." Finding your correct fit is going to be very important for this pair to perform well for you on court. If you do not get correct sizing I could see someone having multiple issues from them, but with correct sizing you are going to have a great performer on court. I went down half a size and they worked perfectly fine for me. My recommendation is going down half a size, but with almost every foot store having a pair now with this review coming so late you can probably walk in and try a pair on if your in the market for a pair.
Lockdown: 3
This was actually a defining point to the shoe that made me love this pair. I remember when these first came out, and I tried them on in store. I was concerned the lockdown was not going to work well and that is why I actually never tested or reviewed them before now. Nearly a year later and a friend offering these to me for a great deal I said why not, let's give them a try. I had basically low or no expectations but was curious how these would work from a lockdown standpoint. I still am shocked at how well these worked from a lockdown standpoint. I had absolutely no issues and felt great lockdown all over the shoe on court. You feel very locked in to the heel, mid foot, and forefoot. The lacing system is also pretty standard and your able to get these tightened or loosened to your liking. As stated before I was very concerned about the lockdown on these at first, but shortly after playing in them that was no more. I felt at no risk of injury or tipping over from an ankle standpoint. I stated before in the sizing section that finding your correct size would be vital to how the shoe performed. I do feel without the correct size or fit the lockdown may not perform the same, but as long as your sizing is correct the lockdown is going to be a strongpoint to the Curry 8!
Materials: 3
The materials on the 8s are pretty nice in my opinion especially in the pair I played in. The sneakers feature a knit type upper with synthetic overlays and my pair has almost like a suede or nubuck on the overlay areas. Most pairs do not feature this material on the overlay areas to my knowledge. The materials worked very well for me on court and I had no complaints. They felt very comfortable on foot and are lightweight as well. These are two things I am looking for in materials on most modern day basketball shoes is for them to be obviously comfortable and not tearing my feet up, but also lightweight. You definitely get both these items from the Curry 8 and I should also mention they are also very breathable.
Cushion: 3
The Curry 8 features Under Armour's flow cushioning which let me tell you is very comfortable. I really liked and enjoyed this cushion setup. It had a very nice bouncy type feel to it. I also still had enough court feel for my liking, but the cushion was definitely more noticeable with these. The cushion/outsole as I mentioned before is completely foam making the shoe very, very light on court. I had no issues with the cushioning on court and it was nothing but all positives from me. If you are looking for comfort, bounce, with a very nice court feel mix these are definitely a shoe on court you are going to like.
Overall: 3
I would highly recommend the Curry 8 Flow to play basketball in as I said to start out if you are playing indoors. The shoe really offered me nothing at all to complain about and has literally become the shoe I take with me every time out to play, in case I need to change into something due to a dusty court or if I do not like the shoe I am testing. From all standpoints I had very positive feedback indoors. The traction was near perfect or superb for me on all indoor courts. The lockdown worked very well and definitely exceeded my expectations. The cushion was so comfortable and felt so great on court it made me not even care that there was more cushion than court feel, and the materials were not lacking either. You can pretty much say these were all around a shoe that I just really, really liked!
I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS REVIEW ON THE CURRY 8 FLOW!
THANK YOU FOR CHECKING IT OUT!
HAVE A GREAT WEEK AND AS ALWAYS HAPPY HOOPING!
