What is going on everyone! Man! It has been a minute, but we are back and today were are going to be talking about those Greek Freak 4s.
Where Have I Been??
I took a little break from writing reviews and was only uploading video reviews instead. I really do enjoy written reviews better and it is probably what I will mostly stick to going forward.
If you didn't hear the news or follow me on socials, then you will not know I also suffered a stress fracture in my left foot. This sidelined me for almost two months. I played for just my second time this past week since fracturing my foot. It has been a not so fun process. I have broken several bones in the past, but this one was just one of those aggravating ones that didn't want to heal up. So if you were wondering.. Well, that is where I have been!
I have had a video review up on YouTube for quite some time on these, but wanted to get a written one up as well. I played in these again this past week to refresh me once again on how they felt on court.
With all that being said lets go ahead and jump into these Greek Freak 4s and see how they performed for me on court!
Traction: 4
There were no issues from me whatsoever from a traction standpoint, and I know I say it enough but I love a strong traction setup on a basketball sneaker and these have it from all angles. I had no issues starting, stopping, cutting, moving laterally or vertically. You are good to go in all directions in the 4s. I have not had any issues with any of the models on court, and have really liked all the traction setups thus far they have used on the Greek Freak line. If you have liked the others, you will enjoy these too. These aren't setup to offer you any disappointments.
Fit & Aesthetics: 3 & 4
We will go ahead and double these up into once section here. Starting with the fit. I have somewhat of an issue with the fit which I will go over more in the lockdown section. If you have read any of my reviews in the past you will know that I truly believe the fit is a very important aspect to any basketball shoe. Having the wrong size could basically ruin your whole experience with that sneaker. With these for me going true to size worked decently well, but I do wish I had went down half for a better experience with the lockdown system. My ultimate recommendation is at this point to try these on for yourself and get the size that feels best for you. There is pretty much a few color ways of these in every shoe store at this point in their release. Moving on to the look of the shoe, I really like them! as you can see I have the all-star color way, and I just love what they did with all the details on these. The backwards swoosh has nice detailing on it and overall I just think these are a great looking shoe on court. They were also a player favorite on court this past season and seen a lot. There was a reason for that!
Lockdown: 3
Moving right along here since we mentioned the lockdown in the fit category we will go over it now. First off the pros. I always love a traditional lacing system because you are able to get the sneaker as tight or loose as you like. Once in the shoe you feel nice and locked into the heel. Sounds like we are moving in a great direction here! Talking about the cons.. I had quite a bit of movement while playing in these and it was something that I was not expecting with this actual shoe. This is what I was mentioning earlier in the fit category. I believe had I went down half a size I would have had less movement, but that is also something I cannot for sure say as I have not done that. With all this being said I did enjoy these shoes from pretty much every aspect but this. I felt like when I was really testing these and playing in these consistently that I wanted to keep playing in them because they were a fun shoe to play in. I really wanted this to go away and these to work out for me, but this was something that was noticeable to me and I tried lots of different lacing tightness etc. to correct this and I just couldn't get it right. I will say I have not had this issue in any of the other models from this line, so sizing may have just been it but with my actual pair and experience this was something I definitely had noted.
Cushion: 4
The cushion features two zoom air units in the forefoot that is visible or can be seen underfoot on the outsole of the sneaker. How do they feel on court though? Well, if you liked any of the other models you will probably enjoy these as well. Personally I liked how the cushion setup felt on court a lot. It reminds me of an upgraded Kyrie model. You definitely feel the cushion much more than you did in the past Kyrie line or models, but at the same time you still get quite a bit of court feel and that is something I always like. You aren't going to get the impact protection or normal cushion setup you would get out of a Lebron model, but you are going to be comfortable on court with in my opinion the right amount of mix between cushion and court feel.
Materials: 4
The materials offered me no issues whatsoever and were probably a stronger point to the shoe for me. I will say I thought with this being the all-star color way that they may been been a little more premium, but they were not. Did this affect the performance whatsoever? Nope, not at all and that's really what I want to work well with my on court sneakers is how do the materials work on court not how good do they look so to speak. These were lightweight, soft to the touch on the upper etc, and felt very good on court. The materials were also breathable on court. I do feel like these will be durable over time, but maybe not quite as long if you play outdoors only in these. Overall the materials worked very well for me and no complaints on court.
Overall: 3.5
You are getting a fun, lightweight, fast basketball shoe to play in with the greek freak 4s. A shoe that I really did have a lot of fun playing in, and one it seemed I just kept wanting to go back to. The biggest reason I wanted to keep going back though is because I wanted them to be better than other sneakers I had been playing in because I did like the look of them, and how they felt on foot. The lockdown was just the issue that I couldn't get over or find a real solution for. I have considered purchasing a size down and trying them over again, but well... I then broke my foot and at this point I will probably just wait for the 5s. Every other aspect to the shoe worked well for me and I had no complaints. If you can find your right size and correct fit on these, you are going to have a super solid shoe on court!
