If you were a fan of the Jordan 36 at all, these are the shoe for you!
What is going on everyone? AirJayP is back and today as you can already tell from the title we are going to go over how the Jordan 36 "low" performed for me on the basketball court. Before we get started this is currently still my go-to hoop shoe and they are working great for me! I absolutely loved the Jordan 36, and the subtle changes or updates to the low version makes this shoe one of my faves in a minute! Lets go ahead and jump straight into these and find out how each category performed!
Traction: 5
If you enjoyed the traction setup and pattern on the Jordan 36, then you are going to like these a lot too. The biggest complaint or issue that I have heard from the traction setup on the normal 36 was the area near the forefoot where it pops out or protrudes outward from the bottom of the shoe. This gave some issues for some and honestly was something I did notice but it did not bother me a ton. On the low top version it does have the same setup, but for whatever reason it does not feel as large or as if it does not protrude out as much as the regular version. I loved the traction on the 36 and this low top version in my opinion performs overall a little better. As far as the pattern, setup, etc. it is basically identical to the regular version. Laterally, vertically, and any way possible I moved, I felt I was covered on the floor. There were absolutely no complaints and only praise from me with the traction on the Jordan 36 low!
Cushion/Impact protection: 4
The cushion once again is the same setup as the 36 with a full length air strobel unit and zoom in the forefoot. Your probably wondering why not the perfect score because you know I love full length air strobel. This is a very true statement, but at the same time I also normally prefer court feel over a lot of cushion. This setup is almost a little to much or to "cushiony" for me. Do not get me wrong the shoe is very comfortable and has great impact protection with a lot of responsiveness, but I would have been fine with just the air strobel unit I do believe. If you liked how the normal 36s feel you will enjoy the feel of these as well. If you have not tried the normal 36s and are looking for a super comfortable basketball shoe with a lot of cushion and impact protection especially for a lower top shoe then these are it!
Materials: 5
The materials on the Jordan 36 low are very lightweight, super breathable and make the shoe feel very nice on foot overall. The weave upper was something that I was worried about even on the normal 36s as I thought it might be easy to rip or tear. This area has been the exact opposite and has definitely exceeded my expectations. I have played In these a lot and there is normal wear to the look or eye, but no issues with rips, tears, etc. The weave also feels very comfortable on foot almost like a mesh and as I said before is very breathable. There is also some leather on the ankle or collar areas on the colorway I picked up and I expect them to use the same on other colors as well. Overall the materials on the lows as the mids/highs did not disappoint me and if I were to say anything at all it would be they definitely exceeded all expectations that I had and made for a great aspect to the shoe!
Lockdown: 5
If you have followed me for a while or checked out any of my reviews you probably know "lows" are not always my favorite, but here recently I have branched out and tried more models of them. My ideal shoe for me is a mid top or high top, but my preference is definitely a mid. These preferences all have to do with lockdown and injuries I have had in the past. I always look for a great traction and lockdown setup and the 36 lows offer both! I was a little worried with how the cut around the ankle with these lows were going to work out for me and I have loved them. I also like the traditional lacing system so I am able to lace them up to a tightness of my liking. The tongue also seems to wrap around your foot giving some extra padding as well as helping my foot feel contained in the shoe. There was no slipping or any issues in the heel area. I overall had a great experience with these lows and the lockdown setup was one that actually once again exceeded my expectations for sure!
Fit: 4
The fit on the 36 lows was really no different that the normal 36. In my opinion they fit a little long. I went true to size as this was a shoe I ordered and did not get to try on before hand. I definitely could have went down half a size for a more snug fit, but in my video review I still recommended going true to size, and I am going to do the same here. The reason for that is this; the shoe performed great for me and I am still loving these on court. There is no slipping and absolutely no issues with any aspect from the shoe due to the sizing from me. I normally prefer my basketball shoes for on court use to be pretty snug. Going down half would have offered that, but at the same time there is no real issues here from me with going true to size.
Overall: 5
I have had a whole lot of fun playing and testing out the Jordan 36 low! I normally do not test or play in shoes as long as I have these. I just have really enjoyed them and each aspect basically has something I really enjoy! The strongest points to the shoe for me personally are the traction and how light the shoe is. these are two aspects that really stood out to me and things I thoroughly enjoyed. This does not go without mentioning other aspects as great as well, but just my favorite aspects. This review was not to be looked at as a comparison with the Jordan 36 even though I seemed to throw a lot of comparisons out there with the shoe, but with that being said if you have played in the 36s and liked them I really do believe you will love this shoe. With last seasons releases I picked the Jordan 36 and KD 14 as my faves or go-to's for the year. The lows out do the normal 36s in my opinion by a lot. The lower profile and even lighter feel to the shoe made all the difference for me. What can I say, maybe I am starting to enjoy playing in low-tops more and more. Whatever the case may be the Jordan 36 "low" is one awesome basketball shoe and one I definitely recommend trying out!
