Peak “Lightning” Performance Review

The Comfort Is Real!!!

Whats going on everyone?? AirJayP is back with another performance review, and today were going to take a look at one of Lou Williams signature sneakers!

This review is going to be a little different than some of my others and I need to explain why. I did not get to test the shoes for the normal amount of time/hours in the gym as I would have liked to. Two weeks ago I went to hoop on a Friday night as usual and I took these to start testing as well as the PG4’s. I basically was trying to split my time between the shoes and get two tests going at once. When I switched from the lightnings to the Pg’s I ended up going down with a sprained ankle. I am now still in recovery mode two weeks later and thought I would go ahead and give the review because my ankle is still a few weeks out.

Now For The Review!!

Cushion/Comfort: 3

The cushion in the Peak Lightning is nothing short of awesome. The strongest point of the shoe in my opinion was the cushion. The cushion reminded me a lot of boost for the actual feel. To me this is a shoe that is very comfortable performance wise obviously, but you would also be happy in them casually as well. If you wanted a feel to compare this shoe to another I would say these feel a lot like the Adidas Crazy Explosive Low that was on shelves a few years ago. I played in those sneakers a lot and these shoes remind me so much of those especially in the cushion/comfort category. If you are looking for a very comfortable basketball shoe you definitely cannot go wrong with these guys here!

Traction: 2

I did not personally have any real issues with the traction other than the floor was a little dirty when I was testing these. The cushion performed well, but not perfect. I did find myself wiping the bottoms at certain points, but I think it was more due to the floor conditions that the actual traction setup. There were no real issues for me vertically or laterally and I liked the setup and the feel of the shoe. I would say the traction was a great part to the shoe, but it definitely does not outweigh the cushion category.

Fit: 1

Let me explain the 1 rating. These sneakers were sent to me by Peak Sports. When they sent them they obviously asked my size. I am a true 11.5, and they do not make half sizes, as it is an international brand. They went ahead and sent me a sz. 12 for me to test. With that being said they did not fit me very well and were to big. I should have went down to a sz. 11 instead of going up to a sz. 12. I would not totally blame this on them, but if you are purchasing a pair of these and are a half sz, I would definitely go down instead of going up half a sz. I would have been happier with the shoe if I had gotten the 11 than the 12. The fit for me just did not work and that’s the reason for such the low rating.

Lockdown/Support: 2

The lockdown and support worked well for me, but definitely could have been better if I had the right size sneaker. Overall some key features to the shoe is the STA anti rollover module along the forefoot which is attached to the outsole. The module definitely does help with the support and lockdown and I felt the way the shoe is setup that this actually helps with the traction when moving laterally. As I said before the shoe feels a lot like the Crazy Explosive low, and it definitely feels this way in the lockdown category as well. There was not any super disappointing areas for me in the lockdown area that I could tell from the time I did test them, but as I said I am also trying to give my impressions if I actually had my right size. If my size had been correct; I definitely think the lockdown would have performed even better for me and it was not bad as it was.

Materials: 3

I had no issues with the materials overall. They were soft and very comfortable on foot. They were also very breathable, and I didn’t find my feet feeling super sweaty while playing in them. The shoe does feature a knit upper that does once again remind me of the crazy explosive low, but the materials on the Peaks are actually softer to me. To me the two strongest points of the shoe were the materials and the cushion. That should tell you this is a very comfortable shoe. When a company is able to get the materials to gel or mesh well together with the cushion you know you are getting a good one in these two categories!

Overall: 2

The only real complaint that I have to say about the shoe is the sizing. As I said before this is not necessarily Peaks fault as I just had the wrong size sent to me, but hey that’s why you are reading this review to know that you do need to go down half a sz. If you wear a half sz. If you do get to big of a size you will definitely feel some heel slip.

Other than that the shoe worked out very well for me and I was very pleased with them overall. I do not think that you will be disappointed with these if you give them a try. Of course I want to buy a shoe for its intended purpose, but I could truthfully see myself wearing these guys as much casually as on the court just due to the comfort alone! If you enjoyed the Crazy Explosive low you will definitely enjoy these as well, and if you did not get to try those out, give these a shot and I do not think you will be disappointed!

Thanks A Lot For Checking Out This Review On The Peak Lightning! I Hope It Gave You The Information You Were Looking For!

Have A Great Week, And As Always Happy Hooping!!
