Puma Clyde Hardwood
Puma has gave us some great sneakers on the basketball court since revamping their line. Lets check out how the Clyde hardwoods performed on the court!
Traction: 3
Let’s start out with one of my favorite parts to any performance shoe to pay attention to. I really like having a good traction on the floor as it makes me feel safe and secure. I really had no issues or complaints out of the traction on the hardwoods. It actually worked very well for me whether the court was clean or dusty I was able to grip and bite the floor well. Laterally and vertically their were no complaints here and overall I think you will be happy with the traction on the sneakers!
Cushion: 3
The strongest point in my opinion of the Puma Clyde Hardwoods is the cushion setup or system. The sneakers feature a full length profoam midsole which is Pumas proprietary high rebound EVA system for lightweight rebound & energy return. If you follow me on IG or watch me on YouTube you probably remember me saying that last year the Puma Uproars were one of the most comfortable straight out of the box basketball shoes of 2018. If you are looking for a very comfortable basketball shoe with a low profile, and just an overall great cushion setup the Clyde hardwoods are going to work great for you!
Lockdown: 3
I have stated on several occasions that normally super low profile sneakers are just not my favorite type of shoe to play in. I normally would prefer a mid or high top sneaker, but in this case Puma executed these very well, giving great lockdown for such a low profile sneaker. One thing I loved is the way the lacing system is setup I am able to tighten the shoe very tight or to my liking, A lot of new basketball sneakers here recently have made this tougher to be able to do. When I am playing I like my sneakers to be laced tight, where I can feel safe and secure/locked in. The hardwoods did this very well for me in my opinion and thats why I am giving them an 3 in the lockdown category!
Materials: 3
I know I said earlier that the cushion was my favorite part of the actual shoes. I would say my second favorite part is the materials besides one actual part thats not a super big deal. Lets talk about the pros first. The upper features a very breathable knit material. The knit material is also very comfortable and there were not complaints from a performance standpoint from it. The upper also feature some leather around the mid foot area which is very impressive. From what I can remember and think or from what I have played in this year there is no better quality leather on a performance shoe than there is on these. The leather quality on these reminds me of that leather quality we all want when purchasing some Jordan 1’s! If you are into and care about having quality materials on your actual basketball sneakers I believe you are going to love the hardwoods!
The only con that I have about the materials is the knit upper is going to get very dirty pretty quick. The sneakers are a pair that I not only love playing in, but I actually enjoy wearing casually as well due to the comfort being so great. I could easily see myself picking up two pair of these, one pair for obvious basketball use which I already have, but another pair for strictly casual. When I’m playing in sneakers I’m not necessarily worried about how dirty they get as long as they are durable. Durability I do not see becoming a major issue, but as I said if you look down and there dirty just remember they are meant to be played in!
Aesthetics: 3
I do not think the classic look of these puma Clyde hardwoods can be beat! This is probably my favorite shoe Puma has put out to date with their basketball line. I know I have told you about ten different things that are my favorite about the shoe, but as I keep writing I keep remembering things that are better, and better. I love the look of the shoe and it has a very classic, nostalgia feel to the shoe. From the low profile, to the branding placement, the different CW’s they just overall made this shoe look very, very well! If you have not been able to see a pair of these in hand yet, you may want to check them out because they are a very nice looking shoe!
Overall: 3
When the only complaint you really have about the shoe is that it is going to be difficult to keep clean on the court.. I think you got a pretty good one! From the traction working well, to the cushion being super comfortable. There are really no complaints from me on the Puma Clyde Hardwood! In the simplest terms I can even think of, its a fun, well rounded basketball shoe that is going to be all around good in basically every category. If you just want to go play and have fun this shoe will not steer you wrong! If you're super competitive this shoe will also tend to your needs and give you what you need in each category. Its definitely one I will be keeping in my normal rotation of playing shoes!
I Hope Everyone Has A Great Week & As Always Happy Hooping!
