Adidas D.O.N. Issue 2

After much anticipation from the first model let’s see how the 2nd pair to the silhouette held up!

What’s up guys, Airjayp is back with another performance review, and today we’re taking a look at how the Adidas d.o.n. Issue 2 performed on the court. This is Donovan Mitchell’s second signature sneaker.

All testing on this pair was performed outdoors.

The grading system is 0 - 3. Zero obviously being the lowest and a three being the highest a sneaker can be graded in each category.

Traction: 2

The traction on these performed decent in my opinion. It was nothing to brag about, but not absolutely awful either. Some issues I had were somewhat of sliding when making sudden cuts or stops laterally. I personally think some of these problems were due to a translucent rubber outsole being used outdoors compared to indoors. I believe I would have had better luck or better performance traction wise indoors, but it’s tough to say without me being able to get them in a gym. As I said the traction isn’t terrible, but it’s also not the strongest point to the shoe.

Cushion: 3

Have I said before that I love bounce cushioning? If I haven’t, you now know so! These gave me the perfect amount of cushion outside mixed with the perfect amount of court feel for me. I’ve said on several occasions I prefer court feel over a super cushioned shoe and these guys are basically right in the middle just how I like! The cushion was the strongest point of the shoe to me, and I do not think you will be disappointed with the setup on these guys either!

Fit: 3

3!?! Yes, you read that right a perfect score for sizing on the D.O.N. Issue 2! You more than need to go true to size on this pair. I actually went down half a size due to normally having to do so with my basketball sneakers from Adidas. That was actually a mistake. They are a little to snug for my liking, but that is totally my fault for not going true to size. True to size is definitely the way to go, and they should perform very well for you. If in doubt try to try them on in-store before ordering.

Lockdown: 2

The lockdown was another strongpoint to the shoe in my opinion, but it was also not exactly perfect. With going down half a Sz, they felt very tight in the forefoot and toe area, but still a little loose in the heel area. It was kind of odd because I know true to size would have fit me better or near perfect but I believe it’s just the way the shoe was made. When I got the sneakers laced up to my liking and to the tightness that I preferred I did not really notice the heel slip and was able to play with a nice locked-in feel on the court.

Materials: 3

The shoe features a mesh type upper which is honestly nothing premium or to brag home about, but for me, on a basketball shoe, I care about how the materials work on the court. These gave me no issues and I actually liked the materials. There was really nothing for me to complain about here unless I was expecting some super quality material which I was not considering I was more just wanting to get a good material to perform on the court and be durable. These gave me that and I do believe they will hold up well over the long run.

Overall: 2

The shoe overall worked out well for me but I did have a few issues that I explained above being with me not going true to size and the traction giving me some troubles laterally. In my opinion, though this is a great option for a basketball shoe especially for the retail price. Basketball shoes do come pricey these days and when you are able to get a model for a good price sometime you can’t be too picky when you are overall getting something that works well.

I do prefer these as well over the first model and I think they did a great job of upgrading the shoe in my opinion and not moving backward from the first model. Overall I think if you give them a try you will not be disappointed!

Thanks for checking out this review on the D.O.N. Issue 2!

Have a great week and as always happy hooping!
