Strong Starting Point For A Model/Line With A Long Future Ahead!
What is going on everyone its Airjayp back with another performance review for you guys and today were going to talk about a shoe I had a lot of fun reviewing and that's the Jordan Zion 1. Let's jump right in!
Traction: 2
For the most part the traction was a strong point to the shoe and more towards the beginning or straight out the box it actually worked better for me then when I got them more broken in. I started out testing these first outdoors and was very surprised at how good the traction was outdoors. Outdoors I had no issues cutting or making moves whether it was laterally or vertically and as I said they worked great. I spent roughly two hours outdoors in them and from then forward all testing was done indoors. My first time out in these indoors the traction still worked very well and I was once again impressed with how well the traction was working for me. The next indoor session the court was a little dusty, and this gave me some issues. There is minimal rubber and mostly translucent on the outsole and with this being said that is more than likely where my issue came in. I kept testing them obviously a few more times indoors before writing this review and overall have came to the conclusion that the traction for me worked very well, but with wear the traction has kind of wore down some. I still like the shoe from a traction standpoint, but I can tell a difference on dusty/dirty courts compared to a nice clean floor to play on.
Fit: 2
I went true to size with these and most times that is what I will do unless I know for a fact how the shoe fits or try it on prior to purchasing. These I ordered online, so I just went true to size. Going true to size is what I would recommend as that worked well for me. The only weird part or issue I had with sizing is there's a lot of space or room above the toe box or almost around the mid foot area. I do not think its something that if you size down will really be able to be fixed I believe it is just how the shoe is. It was not something I really noticed once I got to playing and wearing the shoe on court, but it was something I noticed when first putting them on or comparing them to other sneakers I have tested recently.
Lockdown: 2
I personally had no issues with the lockdown and was quite happy overall with the containment of the shoe to be honest. There is a nice outrigger on the midsole that also helps keep you contained on the floor and helps keep you from rolling over your ankle. Inside the shoe I never really felt any issues while playing that made me feel worried about injury or uneasy while making moves/cuts on the floor. Overall I enjoyed the shoe and the lockdown worked well for me. I did not give it a perfect score of 3 for the fact of that fit in the mid foot area that I described above may bother some from a lockdown standpoint, but as I said it did not bother me once I was out there playing in the shoes.
Cushion: 3
By now you have probably figured out that I absolutely love cushion setups that feature Air Strobel cushioning and well that's why these are getting a perfect score in this category. Not only do the Zion 1s feature Air Strobel, but they also have a bottom loaded zoom air unit underneath. As I have said on several occasions I normally prefer court feel over cushion, but Air Strobel can definitely be my one exception. With the Zion 1s, I will say straight out of the box they are a little stiff in my opinion, but after a few hours of play time In them they broke in nicely and the cushion softened up. In my opinion though I still do not believe the cushion is as soft as the PG5. The Air Strobel in that shoe is super soft and plush, where as with the Zions it is definitely soft but just has a little stiffer feel in my opinion. Overall I love Air Strobel and if you have not got to try a shoe out with this cushion setup yet you definitely need to do so!
Materials: 2
The materials are something you probably hear me say over and over again if it works well it works. Thats about how these are, once again nothing premium, nothing to brag about but overall solid materials for a solid basketball shoe.
